Exciting News!

Earlier this year, Sergeant Keith Bennett and PC Jon Martin asked 10 schools across the region to take part in a competition to name 10 brand new drones.

Everyone at Bells Farm entered the competition and this week we found out one of us had won! On Thursday 8th July we had a visit from the Drones team and a close up view of some of the drones, before the winner was announced.

This was the winning entry:

Ke Xin from Year 5 was the winner! Well done Ke Xin! We were all very proud.

After hundreds of entries and careful consideration, the name ‘Phoenix’ was chosen by the police team for the new name for the DJI Matrice 300.

Ke Xin, who chose the name, said she did so because she thought a police drone needed a really special name – just like the mythical creature.

We were very pleased to welcome the whole team to our school for our first real outdoor event this year.  It was wonderful to watch the team show us how the drones could fly and how incredible the cameras were on the drones. Look how tiny we look!

We even got a close up look at the name as we went back to our classes. Well done to all the children who entered the competition and who were all as proud and happy for Ke-Xin as we were.
