National Poetry Day

Today, we enjoyed celebrating National Poetry Day. We took part in the live assembly with Michael Rose, Hot Poets and other young aspiring poets.

It was chance for all of us to share in the pleasure of poetry.

This year’s theme is Wonder

We worked together and created a poem.

WONDER IS…

Wonder is friendship,
a sandy beach, a buddy hug,
a blanket you can’t get out of.

Wonder is…
moon high, velvet wind,
lavender skies, rapid howling winds,
the Milky Way,
a humungous unicorn,
a ladybird on a leaf.

Wonder is photosynthesis,
meticulous,
adventurous,
a field of wildflowers,
hedgehogs and chocolate cake,
beluga whales and buzzing bees.

Wonder is
a cliffhanger,
a tree touching the sky.

Wonder is staggering,
gargantuan.

A dog snuffler,
a cat’s ear.

Wonder is
kapow, zap,
whizz, bang, wow,
supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,
scrumdiddlyumptious.

A never-ending mountain,
a phoenix,
roller coasters and sea turtles,
and crystal-blue sharks.

Wonder is new,
wonder is thinking,
wonder is dancing,
a superpower.

Wonder is pizza,
melted cheese toasties,
a burger van at the end of your street.

Wonder is
the transition between day and night,
curious, treacherous.

Wonder is taking care of people.
Wonder is your destiny.
Wonder is the biggest smile in the school.
