Rabbits!
A year ago, when Miss Williams was deputy head at Bells Farm, the School Council requested a school pet. This was discussed in all classes and it was very clear that the majority of children agreed that a school pet would be a great idea. At the time, the School Council discussed all of the potential issues including children being scared and potential allergies and some pets were ruled out straight away because of this. All classes voted on the idea and were extremely keen.
At the beginning of this academic year we had a wonderful experience watching eggs hatch into chicks and they are now living in our coop as fully grown chickens and cockerels. We really loved this whole process… but it just still didn’t feel quite like a school pet…
Yesterday, in assembly we had some very exciting news! Miss Williams did a special assembly to introduce us to our two brand new pet rabbits! Our rabbits are mini lops which means they are extremely calm and tame and we met them during the assembly. Miss Williams and Mrs. Johnson held them so we could all see them and we were very quiet so that we didn’t scare them.
In a few weeks time, and with permission from our parents, we might be able to hold them (in a rabbit bed) and stroke them! Miss Williams explained they are babies at the moment at around nine weeks old. We need to give them a chance to explore their brand new home (a palace of a hutch!) and when they are settled and happy we will be able to get to know them more.
Assembly was so exciting and you can see some of our faces below when the news was announced!
