Video: Live Lessons – Parent Guide
As we continue to enhance our remote learning experience, we are delighted to now offer live lessons using Microsoft Teams.
The teachers have been skilling themselves up in the use of Microsoft Teams. ‘Teams’ as it is most commonly referred to, has a range of uses, including being a great platform for remote learning. Teams can be accessed through any PC, laptop, tablet or phone.
The Teams website has a specific function for education and is now widely being used by schools, colleges and universities across the world. It’s also the recommended solution by the Department for Education.
Instructions
Go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/microsoft-teams/download-app and download the app for your desktop, mobile phone or tablet. This is the easiest way of using Teams as the connection will be stronger.
If you are unable to download the app, go to the following website on a laptop or computer https://teams.microsoft.com

Once logged on you will arrive at your Teams dashboard. The centre of your screen will contain white tiles with the Teams that your child is in. They may be part of multiple teams, organised by different teachers. If necessary these have already been set up for you.
Join a Live Lesson
To check when your child’s next live lesson is, click on calendar. To join the lesson, click on the lesson and click “Join”. It is advised pupils join a lesson at least 10 mins prior to the start time.

Muting and Unmuting
During a live lesson, the teacher will ask all pupils to mute themselves at the start of the lesson to avoid any unnecessary disruptions. However, during the lesson, a teacher may ask a child to unmute themselves so please make yourself familiar with the following toolbar options.

Mute
Toggle this button to turn the mic on or off.
Camera
Toggle this button to switch camera on or off.
Raise your hand
The teacher may ask children to press this button to respond to a question. Press the button to a show a hands up to the teacher. Press again to put the hand down.
