Y6 Residential – Day 2

The day started with a hearty breakfast of sausage, eggs, waffles and toast which the children were very pleased with! Everyone slept well (eventually!) and so after breakfast they were ready for the first room inspection! Everyone passed (after a few retries for some rooms) and some rooms were extremely well organised. It was very impressive – parents, never believe them again when they tell you they can’t tidy their rooms!

The first activities for today were fencing for Mrs Johnson’s group and climbing for Miss Edwards’ group. The fencing was so much fun and they learned a lot about the sport too. The children who did the climbing were so brave! Everyone had a try and did their very best.

After that, we all went together to raft building. The children learned how to use logs and barrels to make a raft. They tied their own knots (with a little help!) and then tested it out. Both rafts worked really well but unfortunately the children weren’t as successful at controlling an oar! They managed to paddle around the lake after lots of advice and a little practice. There was then lots of splashing, floating and even a little swimming! As we walked back after, so many children were saying that it had been the best activity they had ever done.

Lunch was jacket potatoes with cheese and beans followed by a muffin and then there was free time until we went to the climbing towers again to do abseiling and zip wiring. The children were so brave and everyone went together the top of the tower. Some did both, some did neither but everyone did their best. Miss Edwards was one of the brave ones and joined the children on the zip wire!

The final activities of the day were fencing for Miss Edwards’ group and archery for Mrs Johnson’s group.

The day ended with fish fingers for tea and a movie night. They really are having the time of their lives!
